Is it in the <build> plugins?
The stanza with the "clean" information needs to be in the <build> section.
I also have this in the <reporting> section
<plugin>
<groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId>
<artifactId>cobertura-maven-plugin</artifactId>
</plugin>
I should have added that information, sorry.

I read somewhere to put this in your plug-ins so cobertura files
would be
cleaned as part of the clean goal. It works for me.
