Thanks Chris,

I also want to be able to run the web-app with "mvn jetty:run" so I had to
set it up like this...

=== in my top-level pom ===============
<dependency>
  <groupId>log4j</groupId>
  <artifactId>log4j</artifactId>
  <version>1.2.13</version>
  <scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>

=== in my web-app's pom ===============
<build>
...
<plugin>
  <groupId>org.mortbay.jetty</groupId>
  <artifactId>maven-jetty-plugin</artifactId>
  <configuration>
     <scanIntervalSeconds>5</scanIntervalSeconds>
     <webDefaultXml>src/main/resources/jetty/webdefault.xml</webDefaultXml>
  </configuration>
  <dependencies>
     <dependency>
        <groupId>log4j</groupId>
        <artifactId>log4j</artifactId>
        <version>1.2.13</version>
     </dependency>
  </dependencies>
</plugin>
</build>

Hi Chris,

Simple, just use :

    <dependency>
      <groupId>log4j</groupId>
      <artifactId>log4j</artifactId>
      <version>1.2.9</version>
      <scope>provided</scope>
    </dependency>
