You are right. the VASID parameter was wrong. Verified this with the operator
and this has progressed me a little further :)
Now I am able to send MTs and receive the MMS on the handset - but it is
garbled. The inbox shows that the message is from "unknown sender". When I
open the message, the content is displayed as below:
[]"[][]<c1201858666.282728600.Rj.msg>
The [] are boxes - I suppose these are characters for which the phone does not
have support.
I see that the handset is showing the Web icon -- so I believe it is fetching
this content over the network.
Here's how I send the MMS:
lynx -dump
"http://localhost:18002/sendmms?username=uname&password=passwd&to=%2BXXXXXX/TYPE=PLMN&text=test&vasid=myworkingvasid&subject=test+subject&from=12333";
....and here's the send-mms-user settings
group = send-mms-user
username = uname
password = passwd
faked-sender = 12333
deliver-report-url = http://localhost:8080/MyApp/DNReceiver
read-report-url = http://localhost:8080/MyApp/DNReceiver
Second issue:
When I start the mmsbox, it complaints that 'deliver-report-url' is not
expected within group send-mms.
I do not get any Delivery Reports either.

It can mean a lot of things (wrong VAS ID, number, etc). Best to ask your
service provider why the messages are being rejected.
