I'm not sure what "Fedora factor" could mess here, but: 1) take a look at compilation commands of kannel and mbuni (is -fPIC flag present in both cases)
2) remove any old installation of kannel before installing new one; also check ld.so.conf: do newly installed kannel libs directory appear on the search path before any other places where kannel libs may be located?
