Could it be an jpeg image made with photoshop on mac, which causes the
image-thread of IE to crash (IE is really a very sucky product). This
problem has been worked around in mmbase 1.7.

I cannot think anything else what could be the matter. If the image works in
mozilla, it should work..

Yes, the handling of blobs by postgresql is notoirously hard to configure
and keeps changing. I'd advice to store blobs as files, which is possible to
configure in pre-1.7 and even default for blobs in postgresql in 1.7.

Did you explore the HTTP-headers and so on, whether there might be something
in it which might confuse IE? (IE is really _very_ bad in these kind of things).
