Hi! I had this problem as well..
When you create the treeNodes you have to set a boolean value whether the node is a leaf or not. But whatever I did, and even if my values were set correctly, I got this error. My solution was to upgrade to Myfaces 1.1.3 and tomahawk 1.1.3, never seen that error since..
