Yes it only works with a Date. If you want to accept the value into a String then you have 2 options:

  1. Use jenia4jsf popup – http://www.jenia.org
  2. Or write a simple validator/converter – google and you will find loads of articles to write one.

Subject: Re: Question on t:calendar popup value binding

I used a value binding to a String but the value did not get populated, however it works for a date. Do I have to write a custom converter? Can I find more information about writing custom converters for JSF components somewhere?

Thanks,
Aneesha

Hi,

I am trying to use a calendar popup. What should be the type of the property that binds to the value of the popup? I looked at the examples source, it uses a date. Does it have to be a Date or can I use a String for the same? Which date format does it assume by default, e.g. - mm/dd/yyyy or what?

Thanks,
Aneesha
