this list seems to be a little old. The nature of many long running projects
is that even though the committer count increases, some also become inactive.

A better activity metric would be to look at who is involved in release
management, who is resolving issues or the commit stats on github etc.

And as Neil already alluded to if you use the platform you should probably
also get involved in some form. Test release candidates with your product, help 
with
doc, try to resolve issues etc - there are many ways.
