I don't know what your Java application entails, but I have used Webswing 
successfully with my NetBeans RCP applications (heavy use of Swing) built on 
top of the NetBeans platform.

I didn't have to make changes to the NetBeans code, but did have to do some 
fiddling with the Webswing setup, as my applications store configuration and 
job files locally.  If you aren't using any Swing components, then Webswing 
likely isn't the right solution, or at the least, would be overkill.
