Support for domain model expressed in other loosely-type system such as JAXB
or SDO using JPA is a worthwhile goal. Some preliminary work towards this
direction has been reported in the context of Fluid project under the aegis
of Apapch lab that provides persistence support for SDO:
http://people.apache.org/~ppoddar/fluid/site/welcome.html
Fluid extends OpenJPA for SDO. The core idea behind Fluid is loosely-typed
data models can be transformed (statically or dynamically) to a POJO domain
model to leverage OpenJPA's impressive capability of O-R mapping. In
carrying out SDO-POJO transformation, Fluid notes that SDO lacks definite
specifications for persistence service and data model definition does not
specify primary key and version attribute mechanics -- two key ingredients
for persistent identity and optimistic concurrency required for JPA or any
other serious contender for a generic persistence service.
