Yes, sorry. I noticed it after I sent my response. I don't have a lot of experience with OpenJPA locking, but I don't think you want to use the pessimistic lock manager. I'd rather get back on the track of figuring out why we have the behavior that we do. If you get a ut going I'll take a peek at it.
