What do you mean by home_directory? $GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR/www/ would be the place to put your html stuff, and then you would access it from http://localhost:8080/geoserver/www/ Now if you use the GeoServer proxy extension in this context, you have to add localhost to the Permitted Hostnames.
