Figured out the problem at least with my code (and am guessing with the
examples also.
Needed to add
fill: true, // need this so the graphics will draw
in IE
to my style map. Now the images are displayed.

Another specific example in my environment is the
OpenLayers-2.9.1/examples/styles-unique.html file which displays both
markers images and other. In firefox and opera on my windows box
running xp pro, the graphics appear fine. In IE7 they are not
displayed. Note in my test code, I'm also displaying labels which I see
fine, just not the externalGraphic images.
Same deal with OpenLayers-2.9.1/examples/marker-shadow.html example.
Seeing neither the marker nor the shadow.
Trying to display the images directly, for example as
OpenLayers-2.9.1\img\marker-blue.png in IE works fine, the image is
displayed, so guessing it is not a path or broken image issue.
Any help on resolving this would be greatly appreciated. Is it a
browser config issue?

Running IE7 on a windows XP machine. I've tried running the
Drawing Simple Vector Features Example
Vector Behavior Example
OpenLayers Labeled features example
And none are working correctly in my environment. Tried looking at the
examples on the openlayers.org site and locally and get the same
behavior.
Is there a browser config item I'm missing? I saw somewhere on a
browser compatibility page that there should be no issues with IE7.
Note also that in my environment the same examples work fine in Firefox.
Thanks for any light that can be shed on this.
