First of all when you have questions about how things work just ask here
on the mailing list.
You could contribute to our documentation when you see there is
something missing, e.g. getting started
guide, overview about how a component works (e.g. chunker), or some
background information about what the components do.
Have a look at jira, if you see an open issue you would like to work on,
just start and send us a patch, contributions to the
documentation are also handled via patches and jira issues.

I find it hard to just dive in to the code. I'm trying to understand how the
chunker is working but if I try to learn just by reading the sourcecode then I
shall have to read for several years.
Or is it just the case that I, as a very junior java developer really can't
contribute? ;)
Any pointers are welcome.
