Depending how it is set up Backspace just may not remove from the cell what you wish it to. Ctrl+Z is undo. "Auto correct" is not a format. Please click ONCE on the cell, next right-click on the cell. On the menu that appears after the right-click select "Clear Direct Formatting." That should return the cell to the default formatting for any type of value entered, date, number, text, etc. (If that's not the format you want let's not worry about that right now. I think maybe one thing at a time.
