Trouble after download

I am in big big trouble after downloading the newest version of Open
Office. The program is suddently no longer available on my mac, and all my
files are unreadable. Further more I now get a pop up on my desk every half
hour from something called Genieus.... (or related). This feels really like
a bad situation on my computer! Can you help me sort it out.
