when I run a slide show, I get the main slide taking up 2/3 of the page and then a preview panel in the upper right hand of the screen previewing the nest slide. How do I go to full page on my main slide and eliminate the preview slide.
I'm guessing, but it seems that you are looking not at the slide show itself but at the Presenter Screen. This idea of this is that the presenter will be looking at this screen on some separate display, whilst his or her audience is instead watching the slide show proper. This enables the presenter to be facing the audience, perhaps in a position not able to see directly what the audience is watching. The presenter sees additional details, such as notes for the current slide, timings, navigation buttons, and - as you note - a preview of the next slide.
Have you connected your device to an external projector or other display? If you do, you should, I think, be able to see the genuine, unadulterated slide show there. So you may be happy with what you have.
And why am I guessing? Because this facility is not provided by default in OpenOffice. Instead, you appear to have installed the Presenter Console extension; see https://extensions.openoffice.org/project/presenter-screen . If you prefer not to have this, you can disable or remove extensions at Tools | Extension Manager... .
