You have turned on /View /Non printing characters.  Use that same command to 
turn it off - it is non printing.  If the Standard Toolbar is displayed (a tick 
against Standard in /View /Toolbars) you can also turn it off by pressing the 
"Backwards P" button on the toolbar.
