I use OpenOffice / LibreOffice for general productivity, but I strongly recommend Scrivener for manuscripts, especially large ones, it is well worth the low up-front cost (not subscription like a certain major software provider). I’ve used Scrivener on the Mac for many years, never any problems, and I believe the Windows version is now as good as the Mac version, though I haven’t tried it myself.
