Yes, only when I also shut down X11 and restart the problem is solved.

What happens if you disable hibernate on the Mac and leave it running normally - my PC runs like this all the time, previously with a CRT monitor which I turned off when not in use, and now with a TFT screen (on all the time).

Problem is that it is a laptop.

A screen saver might be causing the problem too - disable it and see if thet helps.

Ok Victor, this is not an OO problem.
Hibernate stores your current RAM and OS settingstemporarily to the hard drive then reassembles them (in RAM, etc) on emerging from hibernate.
My guess is that the data is being corrupted due to a faulty hard drive or faulty RAM, or perhaps you video driver is corrupted - taht's just for starters.
The resolution of this is beyond the purpose of this list, so I must leave you to sort it out or consult a computer technician.
