Thanks, but is there an answer to the fact that my imported Excel Spreadsheet docs have many links that worked between documents, but weren't DDE, so now don't link unless I change all the formulae? In other words can I mass update my links??

When you have used the Excel technique (same as me) how does the formula in the formula bar of your result cell look? Does it start:

{=DDE("soffice",....

or does it start:

='file:///...

Reason for asking is that I get the link to work automatically when I make the link by doing:

Source cell: Ctrl+C

Result cell: Paste special

This then makes the link a DDE link [{=DDE("soffice"] which updates automatically as I want.

Aha!,
We have been looking at different things.
When you said "sheet" I presumed you meant sheet as in a sheet (sheet1, sheet2, etc) in a spreadsheet document.
From the above I see you mean another spreadsheet ???
As you say, Copy (or Ctrl+C) and Paste Special => Link will give you an updated link between documents. The formula bar shows {=DDE("soffice";" ... and the link updates automatically provided you don't move or rename the source file.
"=" => source document => <enter> gives='file:///... in the formula bar and no updating

Trouble is I don't want to go through all my old Excel sheets re-doing all the links to be DDE.

Does anyone know if there's a setting that will make all links DDE?

Not me, maybe someone else ???

Brian
