[users] page flip and java

I have openoffice 1.1.4 and when I try to write and flip the page useing the 
button in the bottom rt. of my screen nothing happens. Is something set up 
wrong in my program? I try to run a restore hoping that will help and 
it comes up era message ( cannot restore without java 
installed.) What can I do to get my page to flip.
