Wow, that was fast! Thanks Peter! Meanwhile I'll subscribe to this
list and get some more benefit. My crime was bypassing the rule of
RTFM. What I meant to ask was help in using the wordprocessor simply
to suck up a .doc file and save as HTML without me changing anything.
Again, thanks!

I use OOO v1.0b8 (at least that's what Start OOO says).
My main use is to convert Microsoft secret-format .doc
files to HTML. I've been pretty happy with the W.P.
part of OOO, but would like to save the startup time
going through the Start app. Ohyes, I'm running OSX
10.3.8. Is there a commandline way to invoke the W.P.
and do the conversion, e.g.
ooowp -inputformat doc -outputformat html infile outfile
(sorry, I just don't remember the names of the parts) ?

PS: again, thanks superbly for an alternative to MS Word!
It emits AWFUL html!

First things first, I would definitely go ahead and download the latest version of OOo, 1.1.4, because any suggestions will assume you have that.

Second, I do not think, that even running from a command line will speed up the process, because OOo still has to load.

Suggestions:

1) Do all of your conversions at once, so that you only have to load OOo once.

2) Edit your HTML files in OOo. It has some good web authoring tools and can edit HTML and web pages similarly to the way that MS Word does.

3) Check out NVU <www.nvu.com>. It is an open source web editor, similar to (although NVU is in its infancy) to MS FrontPage.
