Jeff:

You have a couple of options:

1. Windows - get it just pre-installed and nothing extra. You should
have no problems connecting to the Internet through your favourite ISP.
Email: Thunderbird, Browsing (replace IE): Firefox (both available from
http://mozilla.org ), Office Suite: OOo

2. Get Linux pre-installed. This is a little harder to find, but
possible (google for it). Again you can use TB/FireFox & OOo, or even
Evolution which is more like Outlook.

3. Mac - get a sweet PowerBook or iBook, install NeoOffice/J for Office
Suite and TB/FireFox again.

If you really want Linux, you might be able to find someone in your area
who is willing to help you out.

Hope this helps,
Crystle
