[users] Table problem

I had a table with 5 rows and 2 columns. The first column had only the 
Month and day no  year
example  03-17
A couple days later I had to make a change in one of the days in the 
table and when I did it changed the date to
03/17/2005  including the year which I didn't want.
This also expanded the height of the cell which did not match the other 
cells in the table.
I finally ended up having to change all the dates to include the year.
Is this a bug or is there a way to advoid this problem ??
