Hi,

You noted that this is a "fresh 98se install" which leads me to inquire: Have
you recently reformatted your win system or done a system re-install? If this
is the case, then any pre-installed software suite may have defaulted even if
you did not choose it as such [a B.Gates' safeguard w/in windows I've learned
from experience over the years].

If you have re-formatted/ re-installed your system recently, you may need to do
a system-wide search for "ms" "microsoft" "word"... etc... so as to be certain
to delete any windows left-overs from your system, taking them out of regedit,
not just add/ remove programs.

I've found that in system reformats [I run xp, so these are frequently
needed!], my first post- install venture is to delete all the worthless
pre-installs form my computer;
Then, I do a system wide search for the programs deleted by program name and
again, by company name [many have hang tags that remain in your computer even
if never executing them. AOL is famous for this in pre-installed s/w packets.]/

Afterward, I dump my trash bin to ensure the junk is gone from my system

I then start to "re-start" my system by adding in my dsl s/w [again];
doing my A/V & F/W updates for security sake; and
pick/choosing my system updates.

THEN I begin to add my personal s/w to a "clean" system.

If this definitely isn't the problem, then the next best advice is to uninstall
and reinstall OO. Windows is a strange animal, and often a s/w install takes
2-3 downs before it's a success.

Good luck,
louann

launch any Office 1.1.4 application in Win98
Plain Text Attachment [ Download File | Save to Yahoo! Briefcase ]

After a seemingly successful installation (no error messages, folders,
shortcuts, etc. in place as expected) of Open Office 1.1.4 in a fully updated
Win 98SE (4.10.2222A) pc, I am unable to launch any Open Office application
either from start>programs>openoffice.org 1.1.4>... or by attempting to open
any file saved in any MSOffice file format. Open Office 1.1.4 is the only
Office suite ever installed in a fresh Win98SE installation and is therefore
the default application for all relevant file types.Thank you in advance for
your help.
