     This is a guess. What do you have your preferences set as far as 
file extensions are concerned? If you have set them so that file 
extensions are not shown (perhaps this is default?),  the attachment 
will not show an attachment. Another possibility is that it was saved 
without a file extension.
     Have you opened OOo first and then tried to open this file using 
File > Open  or   Control+O?
