Thanks you for trying to help.

This seems to do most of what I hoped for without too much hassle, but there
is still one problem for me. I need to copy/link a selection to, say, place
A in the documant, and then also copy/link just a portion of the same
original text to , say, place B in the same document. The procedure you
describe does not seem to cope with this requirement.

Incidentally when I was using the troublesome DDE links it did manage this
aspect very well, but of course that left the problem of the link references
which is where all this started!

Still trying/hoping to crack it - I'm sure it should be possible!

For your information, in the present instance the document in question is
the script/narrative for a Costume Show, in which the items, the order and
the models can change from show to show. The aim is to automatically
generate the chronological list of costumes, with the current models' names
alongside, and also the summary list at the front of the document. It did
all work very well with the DDE Links, before I ran into the problem of the
links always referring to the originating document.

Howard
