Running out of space under any unix is fraught with peril. I would
suspect that in saving its environment under these conditions nay open
files were saved as zero length. No application can protect itself
against this event. OOo is no exception. 

Since this has happened, have you tried re-running setup and selecting
repair? THis would be the first step to fix a 1.1.1 installation. If
this fails, the next step would be to replace such an old release with
the current stable release 1.1.4.
