Why is 9/5 easier than 1.8? I thought it was the same thing... ;D However 5/9 might be easier than 1/1.8 or 0.55555555...
Most people find it easier to do in their heads.
Why is it easier to add 40 and then subtract 40 than it is to just add or subtract 32 once only?
Easier to memorize. Consider. The one way is:
F = 1.8 C + 32 C = (F - 32) / .555555
The other way is:
F = (C + 40) * 9 / 5 - 40 C = (F + 40) * 5 / 9 - 40
The addition or subtraction of 40 is also a little easier to do in your head than 32.
