Yes, OOo provides very good support for most Excel spreadsheets. Excel macros are not supported, but my experience has been that most people don't use macros in common spreads. If you want OOo to be the default program for opening Excel spreadsheets, be sure to check that option during the initial installation, as it will make it easier for you to work with Excel documents later.
