Good advice, but I'd like to observe that some members of this list
suggest that v.2 is just around the corner, while this advice (given
frequently on this list) suggests otherwise. That is, if v.2 is just
around the corner, then how could such major problems still exist? I
understand it's possible that big problems still exist AND yet it is
still just around the corner, but from a user perspective, just around
the corner suggests that only small problems remain. While I'm sticking
with 1.1.4 until v.2 has been out for a while, I can see the temptation
to adopt v.2 beta, especially with it's database tool (which I eagerly
await as I do occasional database consulting for non-profits who love
Access : ( but don't love the price).

This is a little off topic - but it must be said - do not use version
2.0 for important work - unless you are prepared to waste time trying
to recover lost information. I do not think v.2 is stable enough yet
to be used for important tasks. It is very good potentially - but it
must be remembered that it is a work in progress item - a Beta version
and this means that it has a much much higher probability of going
wrong than a final release.
If you need to complete important tasks - use Ooo 1.1.4. I have 1.1.3
which I use for real work - but I've stopped using v2 for this purpose
after having problems with crashes. Now, I am very wary about using
v2, but I know and understand that it is not finished yet. Many users
seem to think that v2 can be installed and forgotten - this is not
true. If you really must use 2.0, save regularly to another docment
format as well as backing up.
Alex - and yes, I will be using v2 as my main office application -
once the critical bugs have been ironed out and I'm trying to help a
little by providing feedback and confirming certain problems for the
dev team.

I have had OO 1.9.x crash on me many many times .... sometimes with
complete data loss. I am not saying OO pre 2.0 is bad ...... I use it
as my primary office suite and I use it a lot. Once thing I have
learnt is to backup date files mannually or check out and checking
data files from a versioning system so that I can continue to use pre
2.0 and not loose data.

I've had a quick look and found recovery.xcu in the following path on

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application

Yep, found the file there and it's empty (relatively). Thanks for the
help anyway, everyone :)
