The beta version of OpenOffice.org has functionality to count the words in a selection. However, it is not reccomended that you use this for important documents until it is released as OpenOffice.org 2.0, because it may freeze or lose data. I hope this information helped.

In that case, use Andrew Brown's macro. See

As I understand with this option it is possible to see just the whole file statistic. So, it is useless to highlighted some part of the text.

Hi

I am not sure if this is just me, or a bug in the software.

I am currently working on my ECA (End of Course Assesment) for the open university, part of this is to answer a question in 60 - 100 words. If I goto statistics it seems to give me the same word count, regardless of the fact that I have highlighed a selection I get the same word count that I do if I don't highlight anything.

How do I get a word count of a selection of text, I am working on this ECA in 1.1.4, however I have just noticed the same thing happens when I clicked statistics on my openoffice save as different format document (previous e-mail) it gives 125 words, even though I also did the same count with just the last 2 line sentance highlighted. (just thought does 2.0 beta do the same thing)

Just thought I would ask, am I doing the word count correctly,

It needs to work on a selection as the document for My ECA has titles and other data which do not form part of the answer to the question, so these don't need to be counted.

I probably need to update my software, as 1.1.79 is slightly out of date, but I am not really using this for production use, and would rather wait until 2.0 comes out.

thanks for any help

Paul
