What happens if you open the saved file on your own machine? And what 
happens if you open the attached file from your 'Sent Items'? Do you 
have the same problem then as well?

Also, try upgrading to 1.1.4. I'm not sure but maybe saving as a .doc 
file has inproved in the newer version.
