using OO1.1.4 and OO 1.9.100 on a winxp pc with a 2.4GHZ processor and 512MB ram, there is an appreciable delay of several minutes when saving and auto saving a large-ish spreadsheet of 5 sheets, 30 columns, 2500 rows, file size as .sxc 517KB.

The delay was kind of useful when I extended the auto save period and used it as an enforced break reminder until it became a pita.

When I changed the file format to .XLS the save/auto save was over in a couple of seconds whilst the file size increased to 2111KB - I guess there are times when you appreciate a file being automatically zipped, and times when you rather it didn't

It's not the zipping and unzipping that takes most of the time. My machine can unzip the 85+ MB OOo download in a few seconds. The time is spent constructing the incredibly verbose plaintext XML format.
