Dear Noel,

Thank you for your speedy reply. Sorry to hear the "bad news"...
Do you know why it was removed?

Secondly, do you know any free software that can replace MS
Outlook?

Regards,
Gregory

I recently started using Open Office. Does it offer any Web Mail Client
Software similar to the MS Outlook?

Hello Jonathon,

I have installed OOo 2.0 and download the JavaMail and Java Activation Framework from Sun .

My question is how do I make them work together?

Under OpenOffice.org, it can not be done at this stage.

So far what I did was to unzip the JavaMail package under C:\javamail and set the class path under Tools -> Options -> Java to where I have the mail.jar file. I did the same for the activation.jar.

I have tried to set this up using at least 5 different methods of
configuration including classpaths (inside and out of OOo), java paths,
library locations etc, all to no avail.

As I mentioned, the issue is to do with a java class that is only available in the StarOffice package currently. Alternatively, try
the macro I mentioned (MailMergeTest.sxw).

Thank you for your time.

Where I can find this macro? Is it coming with the standard OOo installation?

Thank you,
Dan

Are you sure that OO 1.1.* has email mail-merge capabilities?

Hi Dan,

No, the OOo 1.1.x series does not have mail-merge features. It was
taken out of the 1.0.x series and will be in the 2.x series again
after people requested it was added back in to the package.

The difference is that the 2.0 series have it based on JavaMail from
Sun. This is a freely available package, but you also require a special
class that is only part of the StarOffice package.
The reasoning I have seen so far is that Sun is using Java for the
mail merge to make it cross-platform, as any other method is not
suitable for Mac and Unix. This is not the case though, as somebody
has implemented a macro (MailMergeTest.sxw) to do the mail merge
using the existing UNO interface.

I have asked Sun for the reason, and I am still waiting for an
explanation that is suitable. I don't mind using the JavaMail, but I
think that it should be usable for both StarOffice and OpenOffice.org.

Regards
Jonathon

Hello,

Can anyone give me some pointers to how to setup the javamail for OO

2.0.

I need to send an email mail-merge.

In short, it is not possible, not at all :-(
For email-mail-merges you may revert back to 1.x.x.
