For example, what if I mistyped a word? How can I change it? What if I want to change the line spacing? How can I access the Paragraph settings? What if I want the text a certain color? How do I access the Character settings? Once the object is created I can't even get the cursor back in the text.

There are two selection modes for draw objects:

o If you click an object once, you see the eight green handles. In this mode, you can modify the properties of the whole object - position, size, orientation, and so on. You know this.

o If you double-click the object, you will instead see it surrounded by a grey hatched border (and - perhaps confusingly - temporarily rotated back to horizontal). In this mode, you can handle the text contained within the object: select the part of the text you want to modify and use the context (right-click) or Format menus to access what you need.

I trust this helps.
