After installing OOo I always find a folder [OpenOffice.org 3.0 (en-US)
Installation Files] where the program gets decompressed (unpacked). Is it
necessary to keep this folder in place or is it OK to delete it?

Thanks

Other people have stated you can delete it. I did not.
I saved the folder and placed it into folder to be burned
on a CD with other files. I decided that I would make it
a little easier and not have others need to wait for the
install file to uncompress itself. Why make them wait.

Then I created several other folders with the version 3.x.x
documents and use version 2.x.x documents when there are
no version 3.x.x one out yet.

Then I have a folder of templates, and another with extensions.

I have created a group of folders that will fill an entire CD
worth of things that a new person would might want or need,
along with the install file(s) folder.

Every so often, I go online to get the most up-to-date documents
that are listed on the document pages. Then there is keeping the
extension up-to-date. I do this once a month or so.

Since most of the people I deal with have dial-up access, I want
to make sure they do not have to download much after they install
their version of OOo.

Just the other day, I gave out a CD with 3.0.1 on it. The lady
did not want to take it since it cost me something to make the
CD copy. In the end I told her that she could just take it with
her so her husband could try it, then she could pass the CD around
to those she works with, some I email from time to time. She lives
a few hours away so it was not convenient for me to go to them easily.
Passing the disk around to fellow workers may get others to look
into the software.

So you can keep the install files and pass the uncompressed install
file folder via CDs, DVDs, Thumb-drives, or even memory cards. Or,
you could just pass the whole compressed installation file around
instead. It is your choice.

But, please, pass it around. That way others will not need to
take the time to download it themselves. Some people will have
no trouble trying the software, but would never download the
file(s) themselves.
