An odt file is really a zip file, that when renamed ZIP, can be opened
as a compressed folder, which then contains several other files and

at them with NotePad.
You might want to try notepad++, an editor which highlights the
xml-syntax (GPL licensed) and features tabs.

there is a portable version, if you don't like to, or don't have the
rights to install programs:
http://portableapps.com/apps/development/notepadpp_portable
And you can open ODF files without renaming them by opening them in a
compression program:
http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/7-zip_portable
just for the next time
