As this would be a rather large email, I would suggest you probably
don't want that (ignoring the fact that it's likely to blow a number of
limits away in trying to get to your mailbox). What is better is to go
to the download page noted below for the most recent stable version:
http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.4/index.html
And fill in the appropriate entries in the drop down boxes for operating
system (it appears Windows XP in your case), language and nearest
location. Note that this is a *large* download and, depending on the
speed of your connection, might take quite a while to get downloaded.
Once downloaded, you'll need to unzip the file and then run the
Setup.exe file in the directory you unpack. Your son should be able to
help you with those steps.
Note that OpenOffice.org is a full office software suite, and so
contains a word processor and presentation software in addition to the
spreadsheet which can read Excel files.
