Hi
I wonder if you can help me. I am trying to read an Access 2007
database
from OpenOffice 3.1 on a computer running MS Windows Vista SP2
I am getting an error "The connection to the data source xxxx could not
be established. Function sequence error" (where xxxx is the name of the
openoffice base I have chosen to use.)
You will probably get the most useful information from the Wiki page
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/MSA-Base_Faq. It has a good
description of how to make this work, what the limitations are, and
so on.

That was an extremely helpful link. It helped me to find the
OpenOffice Wiki on "Connecting to Microsoft Access". The example is
from Windows XP and where I am coming unstuck is in the "additional
initializations for the OLE DB provider". The example for mdb is
helpful as a pointer but there is something I cannot find that needs
to be entered in the all tab of the data link properties of the ADO
database that I cannot find on the Microsoft site or any other that I
have searched in Google.
As soon as I click OK for the setup of the ADO database, in spite of
the fact that I have entered my database location, I cannot get the
Datsource URL to be displayed or the Next button to be usable.
I feel I am a little closer but not there yet.
thanks
Rob
Hi, Rob, glad that link gave you some more help.
It sounds as if you're using the ADO connection type for an Access 2007
database, right? Have you already tried the connection that's
specifically for Access 2007 (bottom of the connection type list, on my
OOo 3.0.1/VistaHP setup)? I don't have any such databases to play with,
but that may work better, if you haven't already tried it.
Hello Rob,
Well - I don't have Vista so I can't duplicate your environment.
However - just now I went ahead and tried to connect to a copy of an
.accdb file(MS Access 2007) that I could connect to under XP under MS
Windows 7.
It fails!
The reason is fairly simple. ( I believe )
MS does not supply the drivers for that file format as part of the OS
distro any longer.
I am fairly certain that they did not with Vista either.
So the first thing to check is that you actually have the MS supplied
drivers you need.
IIRC the wiki page has a link to the download location at that MS web
site. (I'll go check that)
Now as I write this I also went ahead and tried to connect to a MS
SQLServer2008 express server and guess what: can't connect to that with
OO.o 3.1 under Windows7 either...so maybe that "simple problem" is not
so simple after all.
I'll poke around on this some tonight and let you know what I find.
Drew
