Absurd... Even I get the same Error, When see the actual code by editing the macro I
could see that the macro moves to Actual cursor to A2 and A1, (Which I understand is how
it interpreted the Up-Arrow) and then writes the formula "=A2+A1" in Cell A1...
Which I why the error message comes in A1.

I'm not sure what to say more on this... I feel the Quality of Macro Recorder
is very poor... It has somehow distinguish that user is editing the formula of
a cell and not moving the Actual cursor.

Subject: problem writing a simple macro

In a spreadsheet,
A1 = 1
A2 = 2

Starting in A3, when doing with keystrokes
+
arrow up (going to A2)
+
arrow up (going to A1)
Enter

I obtain 3 in A3

When recording the macro the same way, I also obtain 3 in A3; great !!

But when executing the macro, I obtain a message error 523 in A1.

What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks

JMC

I played around with the macro recorder, and I obtained the same error when using the arrow keys. However, when I just typed in the commands in the following manner, it worked:

1.  Select record macro.
2.  Type =
3.  Type A1
4.  Type +
5.  Type A2
6.  Type Enter
7.  Select Stop Recording
8.  Save the macro.

Now, select a cell and run the macro. You'll get 3 in the selected cell.

For some reason the macro recorder doesn't seem to like the arrow keys.

I hope this helps.
