How do I get rid of these constant pop ups asking me to upgrade Java everytime I turn on my PC, about 3-5 times per day.
Java is a special program (called a VM or a runtime) that is used by
other programs to run. It's quite similar to the .NET Framework.
Likely you installed Java while installing some other program that needs it.
Java is made by Sun, and this is it's web: http://www.java.com
Now the pop-ups. Java can be used by some web pages to display content
in your browser: in plain words, it's used when browsing the web. So
it's critical that it's updated, or your computer could be exploited,
that means that you need to keep Java updated or you can catch a virus
while surfing.
So you can only really do two things:
a) Update Java.
b) Remove Java. Note that the programs that require it will cease to work.
You can follow the instructions on the pop-up to update Java. You can
remove it like any other program. It's very important that you do some
of the two things, or your computer could be vulnerable.
I don`t know who Open Office is and I don`t want to know. I went through the
website and there is not 1 link (or I couldn`t find it)
OpenOffice is a Free Office suit, it includes a word processor, a
spreadsheet, and some other tools. It's not java, but it's made by Sun
too. Sun advertises OpenOffice in it's java update windows and
OpenOffice can use Java, but this is all the relationship.
