I think that this is more or less what I am trying to tell also. But to avoid the Pavlovian response that the word "ribbon" seems to create, I would like to use a different wording: How can we create a context sensitive user interface that does not have what people dislike in the ribbon? This does not cover the complaints that people don't like it because it's different and so urges them to re-learn. These complaints can be addressed easily by keeping the old GUI as an option.
