[users] Linux scanning with Canon lide 30

Hi, I'm using Suse 9.3, OOo 2.0 and have a Canon lide 30 usb scanner 
that uses the plustek driver.  When I select the scanner the only 
options for dpi are 50 and 2400.  Scanning greyscale or line art the 50 
is not quite enough and if I select 2400 the system will hang and I have 
to kill OOo.  Is there a way to use another front end other than the 
default or a way to get other dpi settings available?
