One obvious workaround is to have two columns: one in which the user enters data and the second in which you want the values to appear correctly - and from which you then do your calculations. You write a formula to make the modified copy from the first to the second column, and it is entirely up to you to decide on and achieve the conversion that you desire. If you preferred, you could protect the second column.
