James,
Adobe Illustrator & Corel Draw are powerful dedicated graphics applications used to design print ads, Logos, pamphlets and generally used by Graphics Art professionals, Desktop Publishers. Whereas OO draw is an limited application included with a word processing package and used generaly by office workers. This is not to say that there are no Open Source alternatives for the above commercial software.
You may want to check out
Inkscape (like Corel Draw / Adobe Illustrator) or Scribus (like Quark Express / Adobe Indesign)
I hope you find this information helpful

I am surprised no one answered my question - maybe Thunderbird is losing

I have been using OOo since version 1.0 and love it.

Recently I have had some lessons at work in using Corel Draw and Adobe
Illustrator. I realise they represent high end software for specific
applications, but I could not help but notice that a lot of the
features/controls in those programs are also present in OOo Draw and
my question is this:

How does OOo Draw compare with Corel Draw, and, as an experienced OOo
user, when would you use OOo Draw, and when would you use Corel Draw?

Where does OOo Draw fit into the spectrum of software out there?

I look forward to your comments and advice

James
