A few standard questions - are you using GNU/ Linux, a *BSD variant or
MS Windows? The solution may well be different for each platform, so
would be useful to know.
Go to Tools/ Options/ Language Settings - do you have English (USA/ UK/
etc.) enabled as language of user interface and locale setting and
default languages for documents (Western). If not, then make the
changes accordingly and re-test.
Finally, go to Tools/ Options/ Language Settings and ensure that you
have the box "Check spelling as you type" ticked under Options as well
as the relevant dictionary enabled as well.
I hope that one or more of these two suggestions will help you resolve
the problem.
