Thanks. Actually, the requirement is that the
page be sent as a Word document (.doc format)
and that the references be hand-typed to avoid
the character change. This is an academic
requirement, there is no room to argue. Yes, I
know that forcing students to turn in
assignments as Word is bad but that is the
assignment. It is a doctorate course and nobody
is going to forfeit their doctorate to protest the Word requirement.
If transferring material in this way does create
problems in the way that you fear, then I suppose
this is an excellent example of why such a
requirement is unwise. For the avoidance of
doubt, you and your user have my sympathies!
