Hello,

Since I couldn't find any solution for my problem searching the mailing list
archive, I decided to write...

Background:

- We have OOo 1.1.1, network installation in every workstation.
- Workstation installations are performed in the default folder, i.e. in the
roaming profile. We have a policy in our system for *not* saving cache
information of roaming profiles locally (the whole roaming profile is loaded
everytime the user logs on)
- All below descriptions are performed in one single workstation.

I describe the problem in chronological order:

1. A domain user logs on.
2. Since OOo is not installed for him, he performs the "workstation
installation" (I usually launch the installation by opening a doc file by Open
With... OpenOffice).
3. He associates Word, Excel and PowerPoint files with OOo.
4. Association is done, and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc key is updated to OOo.
5. User logs off.
6. User logs on. Association is lost. Doc files are no longer opened with OOo
but Wordpad ((there is no Microsoft Office in our system)).

Workarounds:
- We granted permissions to that registry key. Tried many possibilities. No way.
- Domain administrator has installed OOo for himself. Doesn't affect anything.
- Local administrator has installed OOo for himseld. Amazing results: next
logon of our user 1 keeps the association!!! But then, another user 2 logs on,
installs and deinstalls OOo for himself, and logs off. User 1 logs on.
Association is lost.

I am sure there is an easy explanation for this somewhere...

Thanks a lot!
Alberto Segovia Labian.
